EXPO HIGHLIGHTS

Twelve outstanding programs were presented at Friday's 2011 Florida Council's EXPO including an Ask The Experts Round Table Discussion moderated by Joe Mahler featuring Legends Flip Pallot and Chico Fernandez. Saturday's programs included another nine outstanding programs including our annual Tarpon Round Table moderated by Bill Bishop with experts Flip Pallot, Chico Fernandez, and Frank Catino, plus all day seminars and fly tying workshops for young anglers presented by Oscar Fileu and the Sunshine Anglers Youth Program. Casting demonstrations and instruction were offered on both days by Capt Jon Cave, Dave Johnson, Capt Pete Greenan and Jim Penrod.

The Sunshine State Casting Club (SSCC) held its state-wide casting competition at the Federation of Fly Fishers Expo in Orlando October 22rd. The event is scored by targeting a series of eight targets in succession, as well as a series of casts for maximum distance, The competition was open to all and the field included fishing guides, casting instructors and dedicated casters, as well as those new to casting games. The competiton was won by Capt. Jamie Allen of Englewood , Fl. In second place was Joe Mahler of Fort Myers. Third place went to Eric Cook of Atlanta GA , who also had the longest distance cast of 111 feet.

FFF's Casting Instructor Certification Program (CICP) examiners hosted the Florida Council's first Continuing Education event for casting instructors at this year's Expo with outstanding presentations and attendance.

FFF's CICP examiners tested candidates for Certified Instructor and Master Certified Instructor. The following individuals were successful in achieving certification as FFF Certified Casting Instructors: Bill Ackourey (Florida), Dr. Dino Frangos (Alabama), Capt Martin Carranza (Argentina), Ragan Whitlock (Florida), and Kim Wroble (Florida). Roger Miles (United Kingdom) achieved certification as a FFF Master Certified Instructor.
